FAQ Egypt

Is it save to travel to Sharm el Sheikh?

The City of Sharm el Sheikh has been calm and all hotels are protected by security. For travellers comments look up on tripadvisor.

I'm a female traveller, is there anything I should consider?

Women can expect a certain level of harassment when travelling in Egypt, especially in the busiest areas. It comes in the form of nonstop greetings, leering and other unwanted attention, but it is rarely dangerous.
Women will save themselves a great deal of grief by avoiding eye contact, dressing modestly and refraining from walking around alone at night.

Are there local customs to look out for that I should know about?

Egypt is a Muslim country and it is preferable to keep the wearing of swimsuits, shorts and other revealing clothing to the beach or hotel poolside. Women travelling alone will receive less hassle if dressed conservatively. Religious customs should be respected, particularly during the month of Ramadan when eating, drinking and smoking during daylight hours should be discreet out of respect to the fasting people.
